Grand Velas Riviera Maya Sets Eco-Friendly Standards

Luxury all-inclusive hotel and timeshare resort Grand Velas Riviera Maya on the Mexican Riviera is setting the standards in Latin America when it comes to keeping things green.

The resort uses a superior water treatment process used by no other hotel. This is just one of the many ways it helps to protect the environment, making it one of the most eco-friendly hotels in Latin America.
Located amidst 86 acres of verdant jungle, mangroves, fresh water cenotes and expansive beachfront, Grand Velas Riviera Maya was designed to blend harmoniously with its natural environment.
When the resort was under construction, the surrounding area was reforested with more than 18,000 trees to protect the native flora and fauna of the region. Not only does the resort insist on using biodegradable products, but also uses solar panels for energy.
The resort received the prestigious Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiative award and is GreenGlobe and Earthcheck certified. Grand Velas Riviera Maya also takes part in the Federal Sea Turtle Conservation Program, protecting the eggs from the moment they are laid until they are hatched and the turtles are safely in the sea.
Grand Velas Riviera Maya's Green Escape Package gives travellers the opportunity to see and learn about the natural cenotes and plant a mangrove tree in the resort's lush jungle. Guests also have the chance to visit the Sian Ka'an Biosphere - a UNESCO Natural world heritage site.
