Wednesday 21st April 2010
On 23rd May the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is scheduled to open. This is excellent news for the millions of holidaymakers who enjoy the Florida Panhandle and the stunning Gulf Coast Beaches. This is the first new airport to open in the U.S. following the 9/11 disaster.

The new airport means Timeshare destinations such as Panama City Beach, Destin and Fort Walton Beach will be much more accessible. Included in the beaches of South Walton are: Rosemary Beach, Sandestin, Watercolor, Alys Beach, Miramar Beach, Seascape, Dune Allen, Santa Rosa Beach, Blue Mountain Beach (the highest point on the Gulf Coast), Grayton Beach, Sea Grove, Watersound, Seacrest, Inlet Beach, and Seaside (featured on the movie "The Truman Show"). The stunning, white sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico are acknowledged as some of the most immaculate in the country.
The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport has been designed to be the first LEED Certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental design) airport terminal in the United States. Extensive sustainable construction materials have been used and the landscaping around the terminal doesn't require an irrigation system. The terminal itself is a 'green' building with skylights that make use of natural light as well as a light coloured roof to reflect the intense Florida sun.
Initial carriers servicing the airport include Southwest Airlines and Delta with direct flights to six U.S. cities: Orlando, Memphis, Baltimore, Atlanta, Nashville, and Houston. More airlines and routes will follow.
If your Florida Timeshare travels have been limited to the Orlando area, now is the time to discover the other delights the state has to offer.
